I did find Sarai's rescue a little dramatic, but I liked the way in which Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael out into the desert. I didn't like this as much as Solomon's Song, but that may be the effect of a familiar and beloved story being reworked rather than one which is the most basic of frameworks. I received a free copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review rather it be good or bad. It is is a remarkable story all the same, which I do recommend just keep in mind if you choose to read that it is fiction based on biblical history. But do understand that the author used some liberties to write her story. I have to say I wasn't fond of Sarah being rescued from the pagan temple or that Hagar was the daughter of Pharaoh as I have never read that anywhere in the Bible. I found myself feeling sad for both of these women. How heartbreaking it must have been for Hagar to watch this son calling Sarah his mother. How extremely hard it must have been for Sarah to tell her husband to be with another woman so he could have a son. I was able to get a picture of how things might have been. Reading the old bible story written in novel form really brings this old story to life in ways I haven't read it before. I enjoyed Abraham and Sarah by Roberta Kells Dorr it is fiction based on the biblical story. The opinion of this book is my own and I was not paid or compensated for my review. Great biblical fiction takes the little that is said in the bible and makes it come alive without altering it. It is my opinion that a good biblical fiction book does not change ANYTHING the bible says. The bible states that God told Abraham to leave his family but that is not the reason in the book. KellsĬorr took a little too much creative license. I particularly didn't like that Sarai was portrayed in a bratty way. I can only assume that author Kells Corr did a lot of research about the times and religious practices of Abraham's family because it seems liked endless pages of it. I was immediately drawn to this book because I enjoy biblical fiction and the cover is beautiful, but from the very beginning, my interest plummeted.
